Hello, boys and girls!
Mumtaz Mahal just has to say something about the wonderful result of the Vodacom July. Two exceptional champions locked in battle. The one carrying top weight had the advantage of a good draw and was beautifully positioned by his rider all the way. The filly did it the very hard way. Kevin Shea did a good job of wrestling her out of it at the start, but in the process got caught very wide for the first 600 meters and turned for home at a big disadvantage. A great finishing ride by Kevin Shea saw her deliver an explosive burst to force an historic dead heat. Historic it will always be, however the memory of Bernard Fayd'Herbe understandably desperate not to lose, hitting his mount at least 18 times in the last 100 meters was an ugly sight. Fayd'Herbe and Shea deserve the laurels poured on them, but the stipendary stewards should be gelded for not giving Fayd "herbe punishment to fit the crime. Surely a R250 fine can only be described as a pathetic slap on the wrist.
If we had some female stipendary stewards, even knowing the July was at stake, no jockey would have dared hit his horse so often.
R250 is like a round of drinks!
Next one on me boys!
Love and kisses
