Re: COVID - 19 Daily Update Stats:

As at the week ended 4th August, the number of excess deaths from natural causes reached 33000 cumulatively since beginning May. This is 3 times the reported tested Covid deaths. Two thirds are people over the age of 60.
The good news is that the weekly excess deaths has been declining in all provinces since the week of 15th July. Hence, unless we get a second wave after the next round of easing of restrictions ( it’s starting to look likely that we will soon go to level 2) that may have been the peak for deaths.
Sadly, there are still around 4000 excess deaths per week right now, but that is significantly down from the peak of 6000 per week.
The Western Cape is the only province where the number of Covid reported deaths is reasonably close to the number of observed excess deaths- in all other provinces the under- reporting is very high.
The hotspots are EC, KZN and Gauteng.

COVID Figures last 40 days
Less tests less cases not less deaths
Regime creating a narrative that supports Level 2

Imo - of course one needs to try and minimize infections and deaths - however the tobacco and alcohol ban does not make sense ito lowering the COVID-19 infections and deaths. And neither does the 'inter-provincial travel ban'. I have come across some estimates that shows how many more hospitals could have been built using the taxes lost by banning tobacco and alcohol sales - and these bans do not stop people from buying.
Also ito the deaths caused by COVID-19 in South Africa, while regrettable, the total deaths do not come close to the deaths caused by TB (reported as 63,000 in 2018) and Diabetes (reported at 92,000 in 2019) - yet nobody banned alcohol and tobacco sales in reaction to these figures
Anyway - let's see what the weekend brings ....
