The report on excess deaths for the week ended 11th August has shown a further decline to 3500. In 4 of the big provinces - Gauteng, KZN, WC, EC, the gap between the excess deaths from natural causes and the reported Covid deaths has narrowed significantly, so reported Covid deaths now a much more accurate reflection. Actual deaths now 2x the reported numbers and not 4x.
There is now compelling evidence that we have passed the peak of the first wave. The key now is to avoid a second wave.
Cumulative deaths now 36000, and hopefully will not go much above 50000 this calendar year.
