The latest report on excess deaths up to 24th August shows a clear peak of excess deaths in the week ending 15th July and then a rapid decline through to the week of 17th August, and signs of leveling off for the latest week. Cumulative excess deaths from natural causes now 41k since beginning May. There were 6k fewer deaths from other causes due to lockdown impacts.
Excess deaths from natural causes ( ie. Largely COVID-19) now running at 2000- 2500 per week. The official numbers of confirmed cases thus about 1/3 of actual.
Deaths from non- natural causes have reverted to normal levels since the move to lockdown level 2.
As deaths is a lag indicator, it will only become apparent from these stats in a few weeks time whether the move to level 2 causes a further surge.

does look like SA is over the hump for now. PeterD excess deaths data is worth tracking. very interesting.
Govt have to extend the state of disaster soon or move us level one.
there seems no good reason to keep state of disaster running any longer.
we have 2nd Quarter GDP numbers out this week. going to be devastating excluding agriculture.
Globally Spain and France second wave in full swing but with very low death rates.
The Argintine is now a new hotspot.
