Kenilworth, Cape Guineas, 19/12

Race (1)
Jack Tar, having had a run the marginal choice. Watch the betting on the first timers.
Race (2)
Terrible race to bet on. Drinks break.
Race (3)
Going to say Fourie got the bookings wrong here, En Garde looks to be the right one of the Snaith pair. Respectable Miss has made improvement with every run since returning from a break, and is the one they all have to beat.
Race (4)
Savannah Buddy from a decent draw could go close here, others with chances are not well drawn, hence my choice.
Race (5)
Going to row in with Mississippi Burning, don’t think the extra furlong will be a problem judging on her runs over the mile. Not overly perturbed about the draw, think the pace wouldn’t be an issue whether they go fast or slow. Going to follow her in the season especially if Summer Pudding and Clouds Unfold take on the boys.
Race (6)
Cat Daddy will run a big race.
Race (7)
Unbeaten Malmoos sets the standard. Likely pace-setter Seeking The Stars, one draw better off and may pull Malmoos through as both appear to have early speed to overcome their poor draws. Rascallion the danger but may prefer the Derby distance.
Race (
Kariba Hall should appreciate this distance.
Race (9)
Marina looks a smart sort in the making, my first choice. Would include Two Pennies, worth another chance. Twicethequality the danger to my fancy.

Hoping Drier can get his Cape season going with his baby in the 1st , Callmemrgreenlight
Race 6 Sovereign Spirit is the one for me , trainer and jock where a bit quiet last week and will hopefully make up for it here

Drier always has his juveniles ready to go. The fact that it's in the Cape, it must have some ability, and it's now favourite. Money is normally the best guide in the juvenile races.

Rascallion looks the right one as surely Malmoos wont let Seeking The Stars have a soft lead and this could make them vulnerable to a horse coming from off the pace

Here's my take Craig, i don't this it's a case of letting Seeking The Stars have a soft lead in as much as that's what has worked for STS since winning it's maiden, racing from the front. Malmoos has never won a race from the front, they have placed him handily and attacked when asked.
After watching Malmoos' last win, i was also not convinced, but that was his third run from four races on a different course, and his first time around a left handed track. All things considered, it was a good effort and he can only build on that, or so I'm hoping.
Rascallion, can he win it?, definitely yes. I think it would be foolish to think that Rascallion is the only one with improvement to come and that's the reason he will win this, they are all relatively unexposed and should make further improvement. Just think Rascallion will need to find a little bit more to reverse the placings on both Seeking The Stars and Malmoos, but more importantly, i think he will appreciate the Derby distance even better. So if he wins this, he'd be shoo-in for the Derby, see if someone will lay you the double on Rascallion.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

On my ratings, I have Seeking the Stars at around 108 with Malmoos at around 104; I do think though that Malmoos will improve in his 2nd start around this turn, but Seeking the Stars no pushover; some of the others like The Gatekeeper and especially Silvano's Timer are improving rapidly and although unlikely to trouble the top two, have place chances imo

Seeking the stars will win from the front imo...watch out for a flying finish from Hoodespruit...definite top 3 place chance for me
CALLMEMRGREENLIGHT win
A GOOD YEAR good place value as legitimate won well the other day
KARIBA HALL here again decent place value with stryker up can even win it
MARINA finishes her races well and will win again imo
rest of the card is dicy...play well and enjoy

Snaith Comments
R4 million MEGAPOOL Pick 6 expected as Justin Snaith tries to give the right (hopefully not wrong) numbers:
Intrepid (1)
Scratched
Super Siri (1): Anything can win this including Super Siri. Ton of money for Callmemrgreenlight which must be respected.
Assertive Power (2): First run after gelding and a long break. Will need this - not expecting anything until goes 2000m.
King Saladin (2): Slightly inconsistent but capable. Doesn’t present much value though. Although he has winning claim this race could produce a gremlin.
En Garde (3): Obvious place chance on form.
Gemini Girl (3): Needs to improve on recent form.
Marydale (3): Will enjoy the trip. Place chance.
Heartbreak Hotel (4): In good form and will run well again. Don’t leave out pick 6.
Savannah Buddy (4): In great form and must be respected. A good Year looks the danger at 12-1.
Rattle Mouse (5): May battle in this class at the weights. Needs to produce her best run yet.
Silvano's Pride (5): Class filly and back over a trip. Include as could be the one to upset Mississippi Burning
Sleeping Single (5): Not far off in all her starts in this class. Include.
Love Happens (6): Concistent type but jump in class. Needs to produce his best to feature.
Nexus (6): Impressive win in previous start. Can win again if overcomes wide gate.
Sachdev (6): Back to best. Huge runner if has some luck from wide gate. Long run-in will help. Utmost respect in open field.
Silver Host (6): Looking for ground but has solids form.
Hoedspruit (7): Caught the eye in latest. Will run a big race. Malmoos looks hard to oppose on form.
Jet Dark (7): Superb win last time out. Upset potential as doing incredibly well back home.
The Gatekeeper (7): Smart sort who will improve over next few months. Has a wide draw to overcome but must be respected.
Kariba Hall (
: Solid form in a very open race.
Royal Watch (
Scratched
Double Reward (9): Hard task at weights and draw.
Twicethequality (9): Top effort last time out when everything went her way. Hoping for a similar effort.

Sunny day with a fairly stiff headwind. Not an easy card again.
Race 1 no selection, mostly unraced
race 2 If Paper Trail was not drawn in the bush, would be a confident selection, but now others must be considered if things don't go his way. King of the Moment moderate comeback run but if ready can run in the money, as can King Saladin. First Among Equals poor last, but promising penultimate. Alingalonga improving each start. Coolusive, Secret Lizard and Subterfuge all plenty scope for improvement. 4/15/9/1
Race 3 The scratching of Swazi Queen opens this up. All of 1,2,4,5,6 have shown enough to be considered. Our filly Helen's Blush is the dark horse here- she will enjoy this trip and has been given time to grow and strengthen up since her two sprints in June. Has had a couple of grass gallops, so comes into this race fit enough, although will come on from this run. Ashby has been given the ride as he has done a lot of the homework on this filly. Its a weakish field so include her in quartets. 8/1/2/4
Race 4 An open maiden in which Snaith has a strong hand, and a marginal preference for Heartbreak Hotel over Savannah Buddy. Pacific Duke on best earlier form can win but below best last couple and a wide draw here. On Your Marks has improved each start and should be respected. Crack it Open fair form and a nice draw. Bezos also bad draw but has the ability. Magnum Fire also improving sort. 4/8/14/13
Race 5 Missisippi Burning selected from Silvano's Pride. Sleeping Single and Eva Eileen are also in with a shout.
1/2/6/4
Race 6 Anything can win this. Herodotus is well in if he can find his best form. majestic Mozart not suited to the pace or course last time, and he and Sovereign Spirit are strong contenders. Hudoo Magic won a good race in Jhb and if that hasn't taken too much out of him can win again. Snaith and Crawford each field 4 runners, and none can be discounted. 13/6/7/3
Race 7 Malmoos would have come on from his last run and is a worthy favourite, but faces an onslaught from the Marshall yard. Invincabelle has always looked top class and could spoil the party. 1/2/11/5/4
Race 8 A competitive handicap with some very progressive 3yos. 8/4/5/9
Race 9 The progressive 3 yos Marina and Twicethequality are understandably at the top of the boards. Our filly Fynbos has had no luck in her past three starts, and does not get a great draw here, but she is racing off a very competitive rating and she can cause the upset here. Ruby and Roses has a very wide draw, but is well in at the weights with some luck in running today. Our other runner Grey Princess is very game but a lot to do in this field. 6/2/4/11

Oh no didn't expect that from Dennis Drier.

I did fancy and back the winner (see my post), but even the jockey cannot tell you he expected the horse to react as it did at the jump.
