@ harry hotspur

now you know ;)

I am told that LS is putting together a syndicate/training system for His Highness the Aga Khan. Can only be good for racing
that a superpower in ownership teams up with a superpower in training and pinhooking.

Barry fair enough, and with no insults or accusations involved! I suppose $millionaires do live on a different level altogether, hadn't really factored you guys into the equation but thank you anyway.

The fillies will run soon, let's see what happens. Perhaps this thread will add a little extra interest to what may otherwise be just another field of unraced juveniles on a blank page.

Leon, I don't care what level an owner is playing on, the point of racing horses is to win. And a great part of winning with horses is making money. That goes if you are The Queen or a guy with the lowest level animal racing in Zimbabwe. I deal with tons of people that have a great deal more wealth than I have or ever will have and they share this same philosophy, as does everybody I ever grew up with in the sport when I was buying the cheapest animals imaginable.

Not any smart ones!
The forum is full of posts talking about battling to break square on "keep" vs stakes.......how you going to do it with only 75% thereof, coupled with much higher than average training fees....that simple really.
The 'no upfront' cost is a red herring....the horse is not ever owned by the syndicate,so why would there be a cost?....the syndicate is aways only a lessee and has merely rented (or a portion of) its racing career.

I just don't see how Van Zyl can justify charging 7.2K per month when you have just as good trainers in Gauteng who charge between 4.2k and 5k.... You also have to consider the fact that stakes are much lower in KZN and they DON'T pay for 5th place?

three, but not going to push it :(

However hope that more people do get involved in racing, we will continue to have plenty advice/comments/options on the site and maybe make a difference?

Again, I think the idea is not bad, the specifics not so great; and here's a little punt for my stable; we are pretty miffed that fees have INCREASED last month to 4 g's ....

This game is poison really. People try but the only joy that seems to come out of anything in racing is the joy people get in criticising and disparaging all and sundry.

Well done Scotia - If the ship comes in as I always think it will today on the most difficult course on the planet, I might just take up some of the offer. Sounds like the syndicate could break even on the lease but at least we will have decent punting info on the horses and perhaps we can at least be profitable on the punting side.

If that ship really comes in I might just take more than 1 share. They might not be contenders for July but hey who knows, JJ was thought to be a throw away and then....?

My only question is, how many runs could we reasonably expect to get in 3 months?
