I understand your viewpoint C&C, but I think complacency and overconfidence could be more of a problem for us. At least the team know they have to improve on that performance if they want to win this.

fortunately at this tournament you have to win 3 matches on the bounce to win the cup as its fairly predictable which 7 teams will qualify and then a toss up between windies and bangladesh...on any given day any of the top 8 sides can beat each other so we have as much chance as any other of lifting the cup...good to read some posts who support the proteas no matter what ...

If it's any consolation, it wasn't very long ago that Spain had the same reputation of being the champion chokers in football - and look at them now. We have the skills to be the best team on any given day, but does our team actually believe it?

Can see this a horseracing link ,how about looking at the facts the Proteas are not chokers -Can anyone name me one lefthander that would have survived Swann on a wicket turning and bouncing like this wicket????there is not one in world cricket.Friends of mine(ex provincial cricket players )are over there and and they say the wicket was in really bad nick and made a valid point that most of the top teams would have struggled to get the 172 on that wicket on the day and they actually reckon the boys played well to choke is such a negative attitude from all we will play in the final and on the day anything can happen I think If I can critisize one thing is that Smith shouldnt have opened the batting that would have kept Swann out of the attack for longer and gave us more chance to get the runs -

Swann only started bowling in the 12th over. England could have opened with him so your theory re Smith not opening is flawed. History tells us that SA always stutter when it comes to close matches. I can name 20 x when that has happened. The only time when they won when everybody thought that they would not is when they got 438. They achieved that because there was no pressure at all. Nobody gave them a cats chance in hell. Under pressure they are not very good. I hope I am wrong but I doubt if they will get past the quarters.

Bignic go look how the Indians play spin, infact Smith needs to get a few lessons from them, we in South Africa are taught to play forward to spin while on the sub-continent there batsman actually play spin on the back foot and very late.... Makes you think, most of our batsman still can't play spin properly and that imo will cost us the chance of winning the WC ...
Hope i'm wrong....

Yip. most of out batsmen need a few pointers on playing spin; just as most Indian batsmen need a few pointers in playing pace; unfortunately this time around the competition is in their backyard - horse for courses and all that - but I also agree with pirates that any of the top teams can beat each other on any given day - so whether we play the Aussies, Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the quarters are not really relevant - we have just about the same chance against each imo; so let's hold thumbs that our boys can do it.

There is huge difference between ODI and Test Cricket...Maybe you need to go look at the ODI stats Pirates, we do not have a great record against India or Sri Lanka on the sub-continent ...

SA batsmen grow-up on pacey pitches unlike the slow pitches on the sub continent....in SA we dont have enough spin bowlers to actually 1) allow our batsmen to gain experience playing a variety of spin 2) to use spin bowlers as a main weapon of attack on the sub continent... just my 2cents worth!
