Those were the good old days - still remember listening on the radio to Charles Fortune (you had to be patient if you wanted to catch the score in between his descriptons of the goings on) - on holiday one year was listening to a game between Tvl and WP - Ricey made a sporting declaration and WP was all set to win, but then the wickets started to fall and if I remember correctly Rice took the last wicket with the last ball of the game (could have been Richie Ryall) to win the game for Tvl

Yes, if memory serves me right, Doug Nielson and him used to be the opening bowlers - can't remember if it was before or after Sylvester played here

Alvin Kallichiran (might have spelled it wrong)Doug Neison told me a good one in one of those famous Tvl vs Province new year matches he was send is a night watchman as he walked down to bat he had a cigarette in his hand that he and as he was about to through it down to put his glove on one of those special coloured spectators said master dont throw it away I will keep it for you needles to say Garth cleanbowled him second ball he faced and on the way back this chap kept his cigarette for him and said dont worry master I didnt even had a chance to take a pull:-) Another top chirp , Ricey was a tough competitor and as they walked of the field on a day where dicissions gone against TVL one of the spectators shouted at Ricey -RICE if you put your brains in a mossie it will fly backwards needless to say that Ricey was speechless:-)Great times I was fortunate at the time to be able to spend a lot of time with Clarkie when he moved to Northerns from Transvaal and I most probably can write a book about him and Gerbrand Grobler the fullback who was also a top left arm medium fast bowler-

Some great stories there BIGNIC .... Huge smile on my face reading them...:)

I remember Kosie Venter telling me a story while batting against the Aussies for Vrystaat a few year back. You know he wasn't the thinnest players around::o.. Anyway, he was facing Warnie and was staying in his crease blocking everything. Mark Waugh was getting a bit pissed off and shouted to Warnie ''Shoud we place a Mars Bar outside his crease and see if he will come and fetch it'' ....

To which Venter replied ''No use, Boonie will beat me to it''
.....:D
