Greg playing back to spin is effective on a slow turner but at the pace Swann bowls it easier said than done and in he bowls a great top spin and arm ball I dissagree with you on a similar wicket not any player would have played Swan with any confidence and I must agree with Pirates even if we play India they wont prepare a similar wicket as they will struggle against our spin attack any one that played cricket at a competitive level will tell you that when it bounce and spin at speed you got a problem you cannot play a line because the turn is not constant and therefore you cant kick it and or leave it all the time or play it of the back foot as a rule .Chicken and Chips my theory is sound in so far as they waited for the wicket to deterioate further and that is why he bowled as early as the 12th over in none of Englands last 6 odi's have Swan bowled a extended spell in the first 30 overs he is the world nr 1 spin bowler and rightfully so we will not face another spinbowler on par with him as far as choking goes in context of the game it might look like it but we were just bowled out nothing sinister to that if it was 8 soft dismissals I would have agreed Smith got a unplayable one ,Amla played on ,Kallis maybe a bit loose ,de Villiers left on on lenght and got bowled ,Duminy beaten,Faf run out unlucky, van Wyk played on,Steyn LBW beaten good delivery,Morkel loose and maybe soft now if all of them were trying to smash it out the field and got caught in the deep it would have been a different story

or a lance "zulu" klusner??.... pity albie morkel or david miller or colin ingram not in the team.... middle order needs 1 or 2 players that can hit a ball outta the park to put pressure on the bowlers.

Obviously a big hitter like Youvrav Singh is a bonus and part of the wish list for the WC but on a similar wicket wouldnt have made a difference I personally think in the 50 over game we missing Boucher who can grind it out but in fairness to the selectors we dont have anybody that can do what a Klusener was able to do at the moment in SA cricket the top guys have worked out Morkel and therefore not in the side I try and stay objective we all want to win all the time and I was lucky to play at competitive level with some of the top players in SA for over 20 seasons but we must remember as some one already stated that any off the last 8 can win each other on a given day just take one good ball to take a vital wicket I think all will be pleasently surprised with du Plesis given the right circumstances where I agree with you with the current game you need a big hitting right hander if there is one of quality.I dont know if you can remember a guy called Vandre Nel he square cutted Mike Proctor for a six and the next ball went down on knee and swept him for four he made 48 in 3 overs against Proccie and the then North Eastern Transvaal beat Rhodesia a top player (he opened the batting with Barry Richards for the SA schools)But the pressure on the field is something that most armchair critics wont understand I really think we got a balanced side that can win it for us

I only played for the Northerns B side but our club side Oostelike won the first league 17 times over a 24 year span we at one stage had 17 provincial players in our club without name dropping our attack was Tertius Bosch Sylvester Clarke Ezra Mosely Doug Neilson Willie Morris Keith Medlycott (he played for England as a spinner)Vernon du Preez Anton Geringer Piet Visagie Mike Rindel Dan van Zyl Craig Stirk we went 7 seasons without losing one match Fanie de Villiers Francois Weideman Gerbrand Grobler Graham Stevenson also played in this era for the club .Interesting in the history of Northerns only 6 guys played cricket and rugby for Norhern Transvaal and 5 of them played for Oostelikes and I am the only player that have played with them all Johan Strydom a centre that played with Mannetjies Roux and the only person to ever captain Dawie de Villiers,Joos le Roux a flyhalf that kicked the winning penalty against the All Blacks,Lourens de Lange played flyhalf when Naas went to play Dallas Cowboys,Gerbrand Grobler he died in a motor accident from my bachelor party:-)on the way back from Morula sun and Dan van Zyl the only other one was Lee Barnard .From this you can work it out I played from 1971 to 1995 first league (mostly because of my contributions of the field:-)yes I was blessed in my first season I played with Geoff Boycott who came over for two seasons anther story for another day:-)

Ja on the East Rand for CBC Boksburg Old Boys and Easterns Under 23's....
I'm sure you played at the old Berea Park, as a kid my dad use to take me there, kind of miss that ground, had so much character... reminds me off the small English County Grounds.
