You've lost me CnC... think I put in quite a few posts, including congratulating the SAs as appropriate. Maybe they were a bit louder than a "peep" which is where the confusion is arising. 50-50, think you'll find "all" of them served the required time in our green and pleasant land and that is where it ends as far as I'm concerned. If you wish to cry over lost potential excellence (and it was England who made them test players do not forget) so be it but you'll get no sympathy from me, it is what it is. I don't make them rules... either allowing them to represent England or the reasons they chose to leave SA. Suggest you take any complaints up with the SA cricket board and/or govt, I think their ears are even deafer than mine though!

Looks like Amla and Rudolf are going to open the batting as both Smith and Peterson are injured. England are going to win this.

KP not my favorite, but have to admit a masterful knock - only one side can win this, but hopefully SA can hang on for a draw (especially if we get KP early today) - could be wrong, but to me it looks the pitch is getting easier as the game goes on.

When i lived and worked in England some of them were never shy to brag about their history, culture and heritage and what being English really meant...even the high regard and respect they have for their royal family...how does this fit in with them paying people from other countries to represent them???

I think there are two points tenuously linked there FC.
I wasn't there obviously FC so I can't say what these individuals were like, I would say the British are generally proud of their culture and heritage, their history. For such a small country we are huge in world terms. I, for one, am certainly very proud of these facts. Pride and arrogance is often a very thin line. But it is a very difficult thing to describe to someone else. We are, like it or not, somewhat unique in our history and to understand what it is to be British (or maybe I should be saying English?), I think people first have to appreciate that. Why should you? No reason at all, I am simply trying to explain from my point of view. I am also a staunch Royalist, I believe the Royals are extremely important to our country, its prestige around the world and I certainly have seen few people who, on what I see, work as hard and for so long as our Queen has done. I will not enter into politcal (including money) conversations on the subject.
I have to be careful in answering the point which follows. You perhaps assume that the enormous infiltration of foreigners into the UK is one that is welcomed with open arms. Let us just say that is not necessarily the case. There are perhaps some who are extremely fearful that much of what I have tried to explain above will be lost because of this influx. But there are rules and if those rules are "passed" then those people become British. You seem to think that the likes of Trott and Pietersen are South African. They are not. They were. You might not like it. I might not think it is ideal but, as I have said before, it is what it is. I deal with it and suggest SAs do the same. If you can give me an example of someone who is not British that we pay to represent us, in the way that you seem to be implying, then please let me know. I doubt I will have an answer for you but I would be interested to know who they are.
I have tried to be as open and honest as I can be in giving that response. Please respect that before commenting should anyone wish to. It is not really a debate I like face to face let alone over a blog thread so to speak.
