2014 CHAMPIONS SEASON CHARITY TURF CHALLENGE (CTC) sponsored by GOLD CIRCLE
Saturday, 5 July was a massive day in the competition with a total of 141 points up grabs in the many feature races which was headed by the running of Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event the Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July. Sadly, the race had to be decided in the boardroom after an objection was lodged by jockey Richard Fourie on behalf of the second placed horse, Legislate against the winner Wylie Hall. The objection was upheld and LEGISLATE (Dynasty) scored 25 points for his legion of follows in the competition. BEACH BEAUTY (Dynasty) successfully defended her crown in the Gr.1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes earning 20 points. The Gr.2 Nokia Gold Vase was won by Hot Ticket (Silvano) scoring 14 points and in the Gr.3 tabGOLD 2200 it was Master Sabina (Jet Master) that found the winners enclosure, scoring 9 points. 2014 CHAMPIONS SEASON CHARITY TURF CHALLENGE (CTC)
sponsored by GOLD CIRCLE
On Saturday, 12 July the running of the Gr.1 Mercury Sprint took place at Clairwood Racecourse. Followers of Normanz were dealt a severe blow when he was scratched prior to the running of the race and Copper Parade (Lecture) who has not in the competition then went off as the SAFETote favourite and the Port Elizabeth raider did his connections proud, finishing a gallant second. However, trainer Mike Bass who finished third in this race in 2013 with champion sprinter, What A Winter, was not to be denied in this year’s renewal and scored handsomely with Fly By Night (Jet Master) and third place went to Showmetheway (Muhtafal). Points scored, 20 and 10 respectively.

The entire Leader Board can now be viewed on the CTC press release page, open PDF file at the bottom of the page
The result of the Mercury Sprint had no impact on the leader board and whilst this is a quiet week in the competition, the countdown to a grand finale of the 2014 Charity Turf Challenge has begun!
“Super Saturday” at Greyville Racecourse, 26 July 2014 will feature the Gr.1 Gold Cup (worth 44 points plus 5 bonus points to the winner), Gr.1 Champions Cup (worth 44 points), Gr.2 Gold Bracelet (worth 29 points), Listed Darley Arabian (worth 2 points to the winner) and the Listed Umgeni Handicap (worth 2 points to the winner). With a total of 126 points (including the 5 bonus points) on offer for the above features and only 39 points separating the TOP 50, we in for a photo finish to the 2014 competition!
