There is NO right and wrong here......simply because you are dealing with animals.
My betting is now more on sport, i loathe betting racing because one just does not know enough.
How many of you have heard the following " wow, that was going to be his last run, now he's gone and won!!"
or
" I can't believe he ran such a cracker, he missed 2 weeks work and i nearly scratched him this morning because he never ate"
I really believe we need more information BUT what that information is i am not sure.
here are a few things i would like though
1: Any horse under 2/1 that runs unplaced jockey also gets interviewed for feedback
2: any horses long term plans...ie this is just a prep for....
3: any medical condition change....wind op
the rest i really think it can be took much and will eventually even itself out. There will be horses that never ate up and won and horses that ate up and ran last.....
as for odds , i can't be swayed either way. one will never know if its "the right money" or not.......mmmmm unless an exchange comes into sa racing and a few get done for 'laying their horses"
Also betfair done many studies on horses shortening v drifting and the figures show you better off backing the drifters in the long run.....

10 years 5 months agoif you ever in Durban go visit the tote at the 400m at greyville ..the manageress is top class and all newspaper previews are put up on the wall for the punters..now 2 years ago I was asked by a person at gc what info punters in a tote would like to see ther eason being they were putting these new monitors in that would be run from a central office and all up to the minute information could be processed on them..the monitors are in there and they look great BUT THE INFO THAT THE HORSERACING PUNTER NEEDS IS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN ON IT ..only information such as soccer and racing carryovers etc on them...as mister a says wheres theres a will theres a waysoodum wrote: Don,the operators rely on the fact that their biggest customer base are from the

Alot of people are calling for "barrier" trials. Again i think that they will even themselves out.
I used to watch a lot of american racing and they publish their workouts......horses with bullet (top/fastest) workouts still get beat by something that ran behind it that day.....
they are animals......

But if there are min qualifying times for certain trips least we know a horse can compete over that trip and they are trained properley at the gates etc ?
If Spies can get a horse to jump and run so should everyone else

Gate training a different story and i agree something needs to be done
Horses are trained differently in SA, we all know that and accept that. Its part of SA racing that a HUGE% of horses make their debut's over incorrect distances. Horses are build up in races to their optimum distance. Its very rare for horses to debut over >1200m....
So barrier trials could be even more misleading...

When Laff interviewed David Payne on winning ways not too long ago,Laff asked Payne how do you hide a good horse at the trials,Payne replied that they just give it a easy cos the stewards just want to see if the horse is race fit
Lol where does the deceit in racing end

Pity that I never read the thread that was deleted and had to be alerted by another forumite, so i dont know what was said. However the fact that i am criticised here, is the best that I have heard - Racing Guru calls me out of the blue last Wednesday to ask for "my graft" - he wants me to tell him whether or not any of mine can win, for last thursday, which one etc.
My reply was simple , " I cannot give you confidence. We missed work through the rain during the last few weeks and we saw how above themselves runners were on Tuesday night. We are doing our best, definitely have chances but can't tell you to have a bet. "
What i did not say was the following -
1)Surely my Owner should get on first..?
2)let's see the bloods tomorrow. I always do my own pcv's on race day.
But , the fundamental questions or points remain -
1)Are punters all now going to phone all Trainers and ask for their graft and expect a spot on reply ?
2) Are Trainers now going to ignore all calls without known caller id's ?
3)If this is what this site supports, I can no longer post here on ABC.
For the record, two things
1)I posted on ABC that both Bah and Doing it for Dan were very well.
2)on course, I told Julie and Nico the following - both are very well and should win. Bah 's problem was the mile straight and MDK'S runner. Doing it for Dan was a nice Christmas Bet.... which Nico went on about after the win.
Maybe better I say nothing and avoid all statements at all costs or give vague answers when cornered like 90% of Trainers do ? Then I stay low profile and don't get roasted.
I leave this site, now, with one question to ALL WHO HAVE POSTED ON THIS THREAD - AM I RIGHT OR WRONG, AS PER THIS POST ? Should I have told " my graft " to Racing Guru, whom I don't know or have any dealings with ? YES or NO will suffice.

" my graft ", not sure what that means exactly, would like to hear how you interpret those words, but if we are talking about you giving your opinion on a possible outcome of a race then its up to you who you want to tell what so its a NO from me

Have to agree with louis ,no punter has a right to call a trainer and ask about another man's horse, but journalists should be given a r2ply
