I don't know about the tote but you have to watch the bookies.
Race 1 Distant Call, opened 6-10 went 1-1 then backed again into 7-10 and wins.
Race 2 Huyssteen,opened 2-1 into 17-20 then out to 12-10 runs 3rd.
Race 3 King's County,opened 1-1 went 13-10 then backed into 21-20 and wins.
Race 4 New Zealand,opened 18-10 backed into 1-1 then out to 18-10 runs 3rd.
Race 4 Salmon run, opened 6-1 went 12-1 then backed into 7-1 and wins.
Surely that is showing you something. The horses that have been backed late seem to have come good today.

Thanks Durbs - Studies into totalisator odds and betting odds have proven that the odds at the off of the race are the most accurate reflection of every horses chances - after all the information , public and insider has been assimilated. So those moves are invaluable ,

My problem has been consulting the tote board, at Opening prices to make a selection from my shortlist. This has been totally counterproductive - and I will now totally discount the tote when framing my selections - the only value of the tote is to decide whether to back your selection or not.

Didn't get to see the race, so had to go and watch before commenting. Race perfectly suited Arpad - with the hoorses strung out from first last, we can see the pace was a good one, Arpad tucked in nicely behind cover and wiith the true pace - was able to come through. The biggest guess in racing is whether we get a true pace or not, that was nice to see. The way a greater power ran suggests he is starting from scratch and will be worked with - there wasn't really any support other than a few nibbles for it - not knowing what pace we are going to get is what keeps me out of most races.

Hows that for a finish - class from a different era, Commetator calling a good pace - but the horrses all bunched up....Runalong suffered from the lack of pace , and weight as well I suppose.
