GC has Clairwood until at least the end of July 2014. By then the polytrack will be in full use.

My personal opinion is that they should have bought out Royal GC and put in a poly track that does not affect the grass track at all. We will now have a grass and poly track with limited space and limited runners. Royal & DCC are dying a slow and painful death, both clubs should be combined.

That is what they tried to do but some members said that they were not in trouble and did not need GC so GC pulled out. They are in serious trouble I gather. Tried to get more money and GC withdrew the offer. A different kettle of fish when dealing with the Drill Hall. Could not have been more accommodating and GC fenced the property for security for them and they are happy. I think Royal Durban made a big mistake and I hear that they want to put their own tents up on July day instead of leasing the ground to GC but that will not work.

Can you blame them Craig? The first offer for the course was R10 million, if the golf course rents the space out themselves for the July they would make that money back withing 3 years. Now that they have realised that they are being shafted on the rental of that space, one tenth of the return, what did GC expect them to do? A decent offer with real pans for development would have been the way to go but hey its not my company...

Hi TS, sorry the late reply. I don't think(and all the rest of this post are my thinking and have not spoken to GC at all) Royal Durban thought this out. They can take back the land leased to GC( I hear for R1 million a year apparently) but what they going to do with it? If it was me I would say take it and put whatever you want on it and then put up a screen fence so they cannot see the race or have any gates to get onto the course. They will also not be able to have tote facilities as those are on GC's licence. GC can utilize the old drive in for park and ride etc as they do at the Met. Who would then utilize those tents? No one and RD would just loose the revenue and then really be in trouble. I really hope it does not come to this but RD has far more to loose.
