Its clear who I am and if you're not sure click on my handle and its clear as day... so let me say this about exposing who you are... the minute you disagree, raise an objection or move against the powers consensus opinion or views, it will be held against you, you will be labeled and it will not serve to benefit you in any way... especially if you want to remain an active member of the horse racing industry....
The decision makers in the industry will never participate on any forum, they make decisions in their own boardroom and nowhere else.
They already read this forum and whilst I don't mind being "exposed" to them as I've taken them on very publicly already I can fully appreciate why its not for everyone. My best guess is that a private forum will not increase engagement with the operators at all, perhaps a few more trainers and bookies but that's it.

On the Who Are You thread, people posted their full names? I for one did.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Just an interesting article in the paper today. The top private investigator in Dbn and surrounds Brad Nathanson has closed his face book information page due to people posting/slinging off on the page using pseudonyms and hiding behind them.

He is big mates with one of my biggest owners. A domestic flare up with his ex wife's new husband. I am sure it will come out in the trial. Done a huge amount of good work in our area. Arrested people the police could not find.(tu) Bob as you say supposed to use real names but those that want to cause trouble don't!(td) As a mate of mine said " arguing with a person that is hiding behind a pseudonym is a waste of time as it is like fighting a ghost"

Teamwildracing "The decision makers in the industry will never participate on any forum, they make decisions in their own boardroom and nowhere else."
Agreed, I'm sad to say. Racing's no different from any other industry in this respect. If Bob takes away the favourite excuse of Those Who Must Be Obeyed for not participating, they'll only think up another. Or only submit terminally boring board-approved documents which say nothing and don't answer the questions. Or just continue to stand aloof ... no-one can force them to post.
As for trainers like Mike de Kock, who don't require board approval and aren't afraid to be controversial - he already has his own website where he can say what he likes ... and does! I don't see him coming onto another website to hold long and futile arguments with detractors who only want to upset the forum. He hasn't the time and I daresay hasn't the patience.
Craig ... I hear what you say about those who aren't/haven't been part of racing, criticising what they don't understand. Like armchair jockeys they are a pain to those who actually ride races. Still, there are those who are outside of the industry that might have useful insight, e.g. into business practices.
Or who may comment ignorantly but who are willing to listen to those who correct them (with reasons, and politely), and learn something new. I know that's why I came here! Ignorance is not the same thing as stupidity, hey? A few postings and one soon learns who is one and who is the other, without any need of knowing their real name.

Craig, you are looking at it from the reverse angle. The point to me is that if the policeman had been using a pseudonym the guy would not have been able to find him on facebook (though there are other ways of finding people etc and you can block people on facebook) but the point is that by using your real name you open yourself up to this type of abuse. I have suffered from it myself in a very small way and have no wish for a repetition. The wife of my partner's brother ls "stalked", needless to say it is very unpleasant for her and her family. Without sounding an arrogant know-it-all, I really don't think that some clanners appreciate what might happen, and of course it is only might. As I say, there is no way I want my real name on a forum and if a separate "red room" is set up with real names only, go enjoy but it will be without me (ok ok stop cheering lol)
Mav... absolutely... armchair jockeys etc can only improve their understanding if the guys that do the job explain. I freely confess to being a good example. Titch and Chippie have often given me eye-openers on here regarding rides. Craig, Louis, the Shams often provide much insight into what happened to a horse after the event, again really important imo. A lot of the armchair moaning is because there is such a cloud over SA racing and a belief that not everything is as honest as it should be. Greater participation by those involved in the industry must surely only help eradicate these suspicions, whether true or not. And we must avoid getting to the point where we only want to listen to others "in the know", no-one will ever learn otherwise and those interested in racing will continue to dwindle.
