Craig , if the maths is right it's right-that's MR (although I am not a believer)
What would p!ss me off is if I was denied a win by a geriatric horse that the system is giving reborn status!

(I am in Howick, attended r2r gallops - only have tablet here and battery low, so apologies if I cannot respond to all)
Pirates, I think that I messed up by not putting my point across properly - I actually agree with you. I was just, at random, using Trip Tease, for Ziets to show me races available and where I will go with him through the season, as Ziets had mentioned Trainers inability to place horses properly.
I think that this horse sprang to mind, based upon his nett rating vs the programme etc.
I havent read all, due to low battery, after your first above post. But, as u know, I suffer from the same restrictions in KZN via my very small satellite yard there.
Overall, this has been an amazing thread and the wide range of input and knowlege here, has been very edifying.
One thing is fir sure, handicapping is very opinion based.
I would love to attend an open forum, where all opinions are expressed and to look at the final outcome, which would be a combo of all expressed here.

Sorry Justanotherpunter, but you are hopefully also an intelligent person.
The decisions of the handicappers can be extremely expensive to those funding the industry.
I am one of those, putting money INTO the Industry.
However, irrespective what the handicappers do, they will get paid their salaries.
Me? I have to EARN mine or if I am not good enough, I will lose mine. No guarantees.
Understand?

Handicapping....requires an algorithm...no human factor...If you don't like the result....a panel changes the algorithm....
It's never going to be correct...and it cannot be because of all the variables....so we use the best practice....average/mean...whatever...:S

Oom louis
Got you a few races for trip tease but
the problem is , you never told me if
you want to stay on sand or want to
race on turf also ???? you also didnt
mention if you want to stick to sprints
or you want to try him over further .......
that makes it hard to "plan" because its
critical info you didnt give ......
Also if you planning to raid and how
sound he is at the moment and how
well he took his first race ..... all factors
in planning sir.... !!!!!!
So i made the assumption you will stay
at sprinting, not raiding and he is very
sound ........... here is 20 races until end
of Jan 2014 available to you for the
picking on sand and turf
( we all know that Buddy Maroun
would have a go at atleast 10 of these
races and will probably won most if
the horse incurred no injuries and kept
fresh and extremely racing fit)

Easy, I am going on my own 3 horses in the weights yesterday. Over 2000m in a Hcp, Assessment would give Night Lock 2.5kgs. In a 2500m he would give him 4kgs. Which would you back? Even I can work that out!
As I said Night Lock has run 2 4ths in 11 starts and 1 was in a 6 horse race and no stakes payout. In a race against La Sonadora he would have to give him 7kgs over any distance in a Hcp. Never.
