Well said Louis. This has to be one of the biggest jokes in SA's racing history. A complete and utter F UP.

100% on this one:
"Not balancing the line – For merit rating to work, in its purest form, horses must also be dropped in the ratings, based upon their current form. This is just not being done. Currently, it is easy to gain 8 points and extremely difficult to lose even one point, unless you run your horse into the ground and run it badly."
the system is good but the application is the problem...

I agree with the part about the 6 points increase - how anyone could have have thought that this was the way to go, really boggles my small mind.
However I can't agree with the statement that the old Race Figure system is better than Merit Rating - yes the handicapper does make some mistakes - but overall imo they are doing a great job - case in point when some people were up in arms about Canta Libre and the other filly that won on the weekend (mind goes blank) being given unrealistic ratings - well I guess most would now agree that those ratings were correct. In short imo MR is a much bettter way of handicapping than Race Figures - not perfect - but surely much better (tu)
Just my opinion

Frodo maybe you could help me with a question. Flaming Forge raced off a 52 on his last run on the sand which he won. I thought the maximum increase for a win in a MR race is 8 points yet he got a 12 point penalty. Do you by any chance know why? Cheers

He raced under sufferenace that day off his weight of 52.

2. The maximum adjustment applicable to any handicap placed horse on either surface shall not be more
than 8 merit rating points. This limitation is not applicable to Graded and Listed races, or horses carrying
over-weight or weighted under sufferance.

Was anything said about the rumoured decrease in the ratings?

This should be interesting..............The NHA have no option now but to concede a complete cock-up or charge Louis with bringing the industry &/or the good name (sic) of the NHA into disrepute.
Their problem is that if they charge everybody who thinks they failing, they will be quite busy!!
