rob, we will have to agree to disagree - I would suggest that in the many decades that it worked 'perfectly', there was no platform like ABC around to point out and debate the negatives :

Had a look at sporting post and also shocked no comments?
I would guess that people with positions in racing have nothing to say?
So whether you give the "punter a voice" via a forum, which would appear to be the better platform than an established, respected publication as SP
The racing public remain silent :S
So much for no replies to nameless, shameless posters
Funny old game we are in

pylon is even better than his sand MR on sand ...he proved it in emerald ...if he won that race just think what his mr would be now? and if he won it how will he be competive in any handicapped on sand again????? and he is in my opinion the best sandhorse we ever seen in this country and his name belongs in the league of sea cottage and horse chestnut although different surface.....
azzie will obviously now only target turf races where he is now about a rating in his 70's and proved beforw he can win a few still on turf although will never rwach the heights of his sand form.....clearly if he never got a rating on turf before becoming a legend on sand he would now be fucked both ways......the best horse in the country cannot win a race.....just imagin.....the sand/turf ratings give average handicappers a very good chance of winning 1 or 2 extra races when reaching his peak handicapped wise on fav surface. just make sure to get a "poor" fixed rating on least fancied surface before been handicapped on fancied surface
hope it make sense....

Sorry Ziets but a few days ago you were asking about goings and times and how to calculate them RE how to compare different surfaces
And now you are trying to tell trainers their jobs ?

Harry
you tell me Negev was badly placed? by citing her runs? the form book does that, Harry.
Further, this "no sand horse" ran 2nd today on sand. 2nd to, arguably, the best sand filly around and in front of another filly, who ran in Emerald Cup. (with your 5 length better jock up).
Negev has been so badly placed that she is a 94 on Turf and about to be rated on sand. At the weights of today's race, she couldnt incur a penalty even if she won by a length or two, Harry, just as she never got any penalty for her last win. She should now be about an 83 on sand. Yes, Harry, badly placed? Maybe badly handicapped, yes, given that her best runs and wins have been in plate races. Oh and her stakes earnings just went over R700k today.
But you are forgiven, as you dont know the programme at all. Or else you would show me the many other races in which she could run right now.Or you would show me none at all....
Harry, you are completely missing the point of the whole argument with NHA. The system is wrong and needs to be fixed. The one point that you do make is that horses are "badly placed" - Harry, just sometimes, dont write us all off as fools. Sometimes, we just have no other races available, on the way to our targetted race. This is frustrating the hell out of us, believe me.
Finally, I cannot see where I have placed Negev badly. Maybe I am stupid, but I do see R19k to the Owners today, instead of standing in the box. And my filly is fit for racing...
You will probably need a whole packet of immodiums re, if you see my next race - it may be an 1160m (open h/cap, f&m) on 2nd Nov at Turff, but probably the 1600m conditions plate f&m at Turff on 12 nov. Then we goto the Ipi Tombe over 1600m on 30th Nov.
Harry, you steadfastly ignore my pm's because you want to protect your identity (shot any tv's lately?) So send someone to my office and let them come and see my ops board with the entire 7 months programme up, each horse planned for. Or shut your mouth and dont compare me to other Trainers.
Lastly, you gonna need even more immodiums when you hear, very soon exactly who and how many Trainers agree with me entirely on the handicapping issue. That article is only a fraction of what's coming!

Re: Re: louisg tell the nha they are clue less

The 'Pylon problem' is a slightly different one imo - yes surely the best sand horse we have seen since the introduction of sand racing - but what to do with him now? Keep running in a few plated races against a couple of other 'good but not great' performers who only race for that 2nd stake cheque - makes for boring racing, but will pay the bills - and what is the right balance between giving him an opportunity to race while also providing the 'good but not great' an opportunity to win a race :S Luckily (or maybe not) one does not come across to many 'Pylons' - so the 'rules' should not cater mainly for these 'exceptions - but rather be fair towards the countless other 'also rans' - imo
