claiming race make so much sense to me. i believe the big problem is TRAINERS who do no want to loose horse.........

That is why I believe that the problem is not necessarily the MR 'system' but rather the programming / scheduling of races - but even that issue has two sides - imo the operator can't be expected to schedule races every week or two for just these few 'exceptions' - the issue really boils down to the split between plated and handicap races to be provided - and there does not seem to be any 'right' answer to this - is 20% of races to be plated races (excluding maidens), or 10% or 40% ....:S

Another thing that crossed my mind is how this 'problem' is handled in the UK (or Aus or wherever) - how does the Timeform ratings work excactly - and if this is the answer, why can't we duplicate it here - or does this bring into question again the issue of claiming races?

Louis,

r u serious re?

the horse can only miss a division if YOU believe its rated LESS than its current rating. If you (like me) believe its a better horse than 88 then its missed nothing. What it has done is not run against horses correctly handicapped and scalped them because its superior.

I really fail to see why people want a horse above average (perhaps even a good horse) and then want it handicapped low so they can milk races along the way.

If Sir Mark Prescott trained this horse and it was as i believe a 102 then i reckon we would NOT see it till next years Emerald cup day where he would be entered in the
sorry just the hampton

he would open up 20/1 due to a 365 day rest and people thinking something was wrong with him, he would start 7/2 and win off 52kgs

that is the art of handicapping

all my stupid little brain knows is its far more expensive to keep a horse in training in the UK and every year horses come out after a > (thats greater) than 365 day rest and start fav and win over distances ranging from 1000m to 3 miles

maybe its a skill thing?

RF,he was merit rated in the 80's when we were made an offer for Mauritius. Another horse he ran 2nd to was Baron of Breedon who has now won 5. If the manager had known how good those 3 horses were going to be I am sure he would not have sold Snappy. Thought at the time he was a bridesmaid!

What a kak statement E we are all debating this subject for the betterment of SA racing. Why the verbal attack? Solutions are not straight forward and nowhere did anyone think we in SA have a better system quite the contrary.

Neigh

Do you know how many trainers have told me that a horse MUST acclimatise before racing , after leaving the cape

100s

And then 2 weeks ago gavin smith wins a race on the toughest surface in sa wi a horse that arrived from PE on the thursday before the race.

Just shows you, think out the conventional ( box)

Cheers
