Don't trainers use or have a line horse in their stable, which I would have thought would be the norm, from which they work out their horses true MR ?? They should be far more accurate than the handicapper !! This should make placing your horse a lot easier ??

agree with you @neigh but that can count for about 80% or maybe less of the horses in a stable .....some horses are useless on training tracks (like de var yt that gets beaten by anything in work according to louis and that filly of craig who won like a champ on debut....and then you get horses like combat cat that work like a good thing and run as he broke a leg in a race )

its easy to rate the ones that do run like they work but remember that 95% of their work is on a surface (poly/sand) they dont race on.....just imagin how pylon kill them on sand and before mr tobin raced on the sand how frustrated tarry must have been that this great workhorse on sand nit bringing his work to the grass racetrack.....

oom louis....any feedback?

Ok Easy, This is how I rate Night lock in my yard seing that that is what you want.He is behind Flyfirstclass but better than Red Cell, behind Nights on Broadway but better than Akita, behind Weasel but better than La Favourita. I hope that helps. ZO is right, We have "morning glories" who can beat anything at home but get to the race course and they do not perform to their home level and vicer versa. Their rating has to be worked out at the races.

A horses rating is difficult enough to assess in race conditions, never mind in training gallops over 400-800 metres???

East I just told you. You the one who says we cannot use any present criteria or merit ratings!:S I know where I would rate him if allowed to use the present ratings but you don't want that. You just don't want, never mind. No more from me on this subject. You obviously know my string(raced and unraced) merit ratings etc backwards so carry on. Now going to stables and to watch WP/Lions and Sharks/Cheetahs.

Guys the line horse I am talking about is that horse in a stable that runs closest/consistently to his MR, not in work but on the track obviously. Surely most trainers put horses up against one another in training and can achieve an amount of accuracy by doing this ? Plus the racing history of said horse. What I'm saying is that a trainer should be far more accurate than the handicapper in this respect. Maybe some sort of liaison between trainer and handicapper necessary. With certain parameters put in place that for eg. LG doesn't try and pull the wool over the handicappers eye's !!
