Running 2nd of 6 in a listed R87500 Oaks in Zim is not bold black type and the whole field never ran a place again in their careers. As said not going down this road with you. Galloping at home is of very little use as has been said by others besides me as you have horses that show at home and not on the track or vicer versa. You can get an idea of ability but they must reproduce in a race to get your rating. A trainers success is built mainly on his horses. No ability in the horse and you can stand on your head and it wont work. Look at Yesterday, Did MDK forget how to train for a race or were the horses just not good enough. The best trainer in the world goes from winning a Group 2 with a horse to last next time out. Who was that MDK or the horses? Anyone who says it was MDK and not the horses ability to run on the day must give up racing/punting right now and go to the casino or something. Cheers and carry on.

Craig I cant entirely agree with you on this one. If MDK knew "everything"(not saying he does or that you are) he would not have entered these two horses yesterday for what ever the reason's. Prep not right, badly handicapped, going, distance, weight etc etc So the question is, did they run to their ability ? NO, so who is to blame ? The horse ? I think not. A combination of both more likely. You are both right !! Chicken or the egg !! The good trainers, I believe, like in any other sport try to eliminate or restrict these variables to a minimum. All being equal that is. The difference here is that we are dealing with an animal that cant talk. That's where the men and the boy's are separated from one another. The good ,average or kak horseman. The same applies to our MR system and trainers. The system, good or bad , should be the same for all, but we all know it isn't and that's to me the big imbalance. That's why I again suggest a type of liaison between trainers and the handicapper to correct this imbalance.

Im curious as to how a man who spends a his hard earned money
On a hobby/passion chooses who to train his horse

Geniune question, luck, past successes, friend who's a trainer etc

Correct so I am right the horse shouldn't have run and MDK would be the first to say it, Why? Because he knows his animal's, a true horseman !! That's my point. This is however a unique situation then. The variables that I talk about have proved him correct. He normally limits them better than most. Not this time (not his choice then) and it makes sense why the horse never performed. The handicapper is however not privy to the situation at hand (like the owner wanting to run his horse which was'nt ready for the race). That's why I suggest a line of comps between trainer and handicapper on a more formal basis.( Both can have a limited say in the horses MR outside the system's rules). Hope I make sense. I don't have the technical knowledge of the MR system to the max, but I am a practical person and I am looking for a practical/logical solution to a very intricate problem.
