The article explains nothing except that the author is stupid or thinks we are.
Using their figures, consider this:recently it was reported that a horse paying R13.90 just before the off, paid R6.50 so,as an example...
SA nett contribution,say,R200,000 @ 13.90 =14,388 or just over 7% of the pool.
Overseas nett contrib.at R100,000(33% of total pool)
To reduce the overall dividend to R6.50,R31,766 of the R100,000 has to be bet on the winner.....or 31% of the incoming pool ?
And all based on lucky numbers ???
You can do the maths on a number of the anomolies and they are just as lopsided.

Absolute Bollocks

TAB MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: TAB payouts

RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited

TAB customers should note that the increasing amount of overseas bets in TAB Win and Place pools on South African races is resulting in significant differences between the final official payouts and those displayed at the start of a race.
Overseas bets currently comprise more than 30% of TAB Win and Place pools. At the Vaal meeting on 8 December, international bets comprised 43% of Place pools and 32% of Win pools.
Pools are closed immediately a race starts and no bets can be taken within South Africa or overseas after that. But it can take up to a minute after pools have closed for TAB’s computerised betting system to receive final pool totals from its international tote partners. Once these are received, TAB’s system instantly does a final scan and generates the final payouts.
Given that huge amounts of money are bet in the last few seconds, it’s unavoidable that the payouts shown as a race starts change once the TAB system does its final scan.
TAB and overseas tote operators constantly monitor the flow of bets and it is hoped that as pool sizes increase, the impact of last-minute bets on payouts will diminish. Obviously ways are continually being sought to reduce the time between the start of a race and the final pool scan.
TAB customers should also note that there will be unusual tote payouts from time to time because some overseas customers bet substantial amounts on their lucky numbers, which can often comprise outsiders with no apparent chance on form.

alcaponee:
Race 1 @ Fairview (just run).
The window showed 'race closed' with No. 3 (Tower of Strength) paying R1.60 a place with commentary.

When race commentary just about over, the place payout changes to R1.30!!!!

Do we still need an explanation or, just....?

After much research I have discovered why El Kapitaine paid so little for a win the other day. The Vietnamese equivalent of Old Moore's Almanac contains a 2000 year old cipher that substitutes letters and enables encoded messages to be passed relatively simply.

For example

EL KAPITAINE = ELKAPITAINE
WI LL SHITIN = WILL SHIT IN

Apparently the CIA worked on cracking this cipher for 10 years in the 60's and early 70's without success. In case you are wondering about the P it is silent, as in swimmimg pool.

Watch here for more incredible discosures ( bollocks) in due course. Guaranteed at least 80% of all horses tipped will win !!!

There must be a massive stakes increase coming if the pools are being boosted by 30%?

1) Can "P" please publish an affadavit, accompanied by a board resolution, that all tote machines close as the gates open,on all races.
2)As this is an official explanation,by a listed company, could the company please publish the evidence which supports the statement that overseas punters bet large amounts on lucky numbers.

PS: I hope that it is not correct as it would mean that you have a 300% better chance of backing a winner,in SA,using a lucky number as opposed to studying form, lol

The dividends were worrying....the explanation is absolutely F#(&ING frightening!

I still maintain that because of the huge increase in the pools they are not doing anything wrong!!!!!

Our pools are about R22,000 to R30,000 on the win/place pools per race. After the comingling those pools jump up to R70,000 to R90,000 (in some races).

It stands to logic that the dividends will fluctuate.

NOW........This knob head who wrote this article saying that the overseas punters play their "lucky numbers"....Now that is an absolute farce!!!!!

They must think we are crack addicts to believe that but of bollocks.

I would want to see how the comingling happens and when they overseas totes close.

Have bought my Fafi dream guide for Sat. no more computerform and winning form for me.

Playing fafi

Fafi participants choose the number they want to gamble on by interpreting their dreams. This dream interpretation or conversion is based upon a variety of systems.[2] When they have decided upon their lucky number, participants will then place a bet on their number. A dream about robbers (izigebengu/amasela) may indicate the number 7. A dream about a white person (umLungu) is the number 3, whereas a dream about the sea could either indicate the number 18 for a ship (inqanawe) or 26, the number for water (amanzi).[1]

The game requires a woman runner (isikhwama - bag) to take a bag of bets, along with the names of the betters and their money, to someone, usually Chinese, who visits the station (house) of the runner holding the betting session. The Chinese person will take the bag from the runner and then whisper the winning number to her. The runner will then indicate with her hands to the betters which number has won, and that person will be paid out

Tommy,If co-mingling is approx 33% of the total pool(as per the media release) they INCREASE the existing pools by 50%. Therefore they have to have bet 300% more on the winner,to halve the dividend.
I'm not sure that "stands to logic" but you are entitled to your view!

I understand that the totes in Soweto have been taking a pounding?

Fafi or fa-fi (pronounced fah-fee), also known as mo-china, is a form of betting played mainly by black South Africa women, particularly those living in Soweto, and is believed to have originated with South Africa's Chinese community.
