On form King of Pain was the horse to beat.. And he duly obliged. Dont think there was crookery of any sort in this race.

Bernard Fayd'Herbe would certainly agree with your assessment press as there is little doubt he could have ridden for Bass in the race

I remember J Gouws going past the finishing post with his feet in the horse's ears on a Ferraris runner so as to not beat the stable companion that van Booma was on. If I'm not mistaken, Gouws picked up a lengthy suspension after that. There are many other jockeys that have picked up suspensions over the years for not giving a horse every chance - others have been warned off for life. That says that the game, historically has provided fertile ground for this sort of thing. Why does it then seem so incredible that this can still be happening?

Yes, I do believe the game is cleaner today, also better policed and I think a lot of jockeys have come to realize that a much better living/career can be had by building a clean reputation, but to say that the elements that have historically motivated people to act dishonestly, suddenly do not exist anymore - when it's still the same game we're talking about - is a bit too optimistic.

Half the Italian football team is currently under investigation for match fixing after all - this is the reality of the world we live in.

Wherever people stand to win or lose large amounts of money on the happening or not happening of something, the temptation to affect that result will never be far away.

hi i am new on this blog, but i just cant believe that people, that have been in horseracing for so long, still believe that jockeys are honest. If you do believe this, you have your head buried deep in the sand or just have too much money to waste.Going back about 10 years ago ,when i had money, through big owners ,we had lots of dealing with top jockeys and made good money ,but it never lasts ,so i got out and only bet for the pleasure . sorry to say ,but it has become 10 times worst,,jockeys seem to rule racing at the moment, on a weekly basis,i hear trainers complaining about ,jockeys, who dont follow their instrutions, but always come up with some excuse or i am sorry, doesnt help when you have lost lots of money.ONLY ADVICE ,GET OUT NOW OR RACE FOR THE STAKES AND THE PLEASURE OF BEING INVOLVE IN HORSERACING

Awww, I dont think its that bad Bigal... Its a gamble - the only certainty is that crooked or not, there WILL be a result. And whilst it may be a few that lose, there is someone out there that is rejoycing in backing the winner. I say if we are gonna complain about crookedness, we should just stop punting B)-

Bigal if its so corrupt then where is the pleasure???? you missed a very important point here mistaking jocks for good tipsters and when they get beat thinking that they pulled a (not so) fast one...they arent as crook as you may be led to believe but the fact is they cant tip a wheel barrow. dont be confused by results

Titch, Tobie was on Sea Baby - heavily backed favourite, not sure the name of Gouws' mount, but perhaps between the two of us we have the exacta lol! I would not have been happy if I' d backed the 20/1 shot and lose my money in cold blood. It was quite a sight though - think he was more scared of Ferraris than the Stipes!:D
