To answer your question, its amazing how good tipsters jockeys become ,as soon ,as how much money is offered and yes, there is still the pleasure.when, catching a p.a for 6 rand and showing a profit.Instead of forking out big money and battling to break even at the end of the day, there is only one person who gets rich and its not the punter, you should know that.

not trying to cause a stir or be in the camp saying that the horse was "pulled" , just going to say it how it is: i was told in the tote on saturday that Abercrombie wouldn't run a place along with the fav in the 3rd to run a place but not win, and there are clanners here that can confirm this...take it how you like

I have friends that are jockeys and where, they have told me that certain jocks play games ,if you been playing this game as long as me you will not argue, some guy say don't play this game if you think its crooked , Why must I stop playing it ,I love the game ,the game is bigger then a bunch of crooks,we must try and stop this kak that is going on ,why must jockeys ride bad race all the time ,they are professionals they ride every day of there life's,they do down the wrong side they get boxed in in a 7horse field they run wide take horses to the front when told not to,it go's on and on,1 of the stips in cape town is Cecil van As,I remember ppl saying to him when he rode , How vas van As and now his a stip but can't see any wrong,AS they say THIS GAME IS FOR KINGS AND C....S and I am no king.

Ah, one of my all-time favorites...."I was told."
A Turf classic.
Second only to "They give it to me on the way in."
Loser talk.

My final word on this thread......Amercrombie was flying over the 1200m in his last start, even though he was slow away. So thinking he was going an extra 300m and the way he was flying up last time, i really thought this would be right up his alley. Was his last run against crap horses? Not that crap i don't think! So for me a very poor run.....pulled or not, i had 2 pick6's and Jpt's. One where i bankered Amercrombie and another where i covered with Bernard.

I have been punting for about 6yrs now and have learnt quite a bit about this game. Definetly not for the weak at heart or cry babies. I posted on ABC about 6yrs ago about a certain jock who I believed was crooked and I was crucified by a handful of posters. Even though I had sources who confirmed my thoughts about a certain race and how the horse was purposely given a kak ride. i did my tom on the horse and dropped the subject. The horse eventually won a few races on the same distance, different jock at bigger prices. I bumped into the midget one day at the local Pick n Pay and decided to approach him. I asked him what went wrong with the horse on the day and his reply was it was the wrong price and he laughed. I felt like knocking the midget out cold.
Further to that I have seen and heard fellow friends and even some family talk to jocks who give them tips in turn for them placing bets for them. One jock told my friend to ignore the favorite in a race that was 7/10 and back the stable companion who he was riding at 25/1. My friend told him that it was impossible that you could win cause the favorite was a justified favorite. The jock told him not to worry about all that and trust him. True to his word, the favorite with 1000m to go was travelling like a champion, only for it to suddenly fade 500m and finish stone last with the stable companion romping home. It drifted from 25/1 to 40/1 yet my friend punted the horse to win 20k and punted 10k for the jock. Personally I never listen to them. Rather loose my hard earned cash with my own selections.
Tich you seem to disagree with this whole debate and I don't have the experience in the industry that you have yet I have seen and heard many a tale of a crooked jock/jockeys/trainers.... My believe is that wherever their is money involved you will find the skelms, PERIOD.

Savas I have said it before and I will say it again if I had to rely on racing to make a living I would have been in the poor house that i learnt many many moons ago...it is my hobby and I play according to what i can afford to loose which is why i can look at the picture from a neutral point of view but one thing is for sure i will certainly never let any Jockey influence me on a horse one way or the other they are the worst tipsters in the world bar none

P i am not saying that the game is squeeky clean but what i am saying is that not every fav that gets beat is crook as some posters would have us believe and i will stand by my belief that the game is A LOT cleaner than some so called authorities on the subject claim..

In 1995 I helped Dave Safi (Mr.A) put 400k on a horse that belonged to 2 bookmakers (Henry Mansel and Les Koury) the Horse in question was Golden Hoard at Bruma tattersalls..Ray Solomon layed us 900k/200k and the other 200k was spread among the balance of the bookmakers in Bruma and the horse came home on its own, when 1 considers what the money we took out of Bruma that day equates to in todays terms then surely that would have been "got to" if jocks were that approachable and willing?? there were a lot of really big bets that dave pulled off at Bruma in the mid to late '90's which he would be more qualified to elaborate on Smart Money over a distance thought to be too short also springs to mind but GH sticks in my memory coz of the huge figure ( in fact settlement was done in installments) but more to the point the fact that 2 bookmakers owned the horse...
