Abercrombie different story though - as others have noted, always slow away, plus this was 2yo feature and owners are not exactly mugs you'd want to pee off - I'm sure this was an absolute trier - I think unfortunately Karl has rightly or wrongly acquired the reputation amongst punters as someone who has been observed to go missing a little too often on a fancied runner than punters care to remember, so when he does get beat - or runs out the PA on a hot favourite (I personally don't banker Karl on a favourite) punters are quick to cry foul!
If I can say something in his defence - he was interviewed on Winning Ways recently, and I got the idea from some of his responses, that he rides a horse in the best interest of the horse, eg teaching to settle etc. even if this might only bear fruit in it's next start. He said something to the effect that stables know what they get when they put him up, how he rides, and this doesn't suit all stables. Unfortunately we punters are in the dark too as far as these educational escapades go...
