lets get back to the problem the racetrack ..i asked yesterday if it had been watered and ziets said he didnt know well now we have the facts on the sahra website ,,in the last 24 hours 16mm of rain and in the last 7 days 16mm of rain so no rain up until the last 24 hours ..however in the last 7 days 30mm of irrigation so what i was told was the track manager was told by 2 local trainers to water the track and he replied what if it rained but gave into pressure and irrigated only for the 16mm to arrive ...there was no ways that the track would be unraceable after only 16mm of rain ,,,

Any chance that at least 1 of those trainers complained bitterly when the meeting was canceled??

8 years 6 months ago - 8 years 6 months agoOTA the fact that some folk have recently started posting doesn't make them any less qualified to comment so your reference to newbies is completely offside...as for your ridiculous comparison with a track that hosts the Kentucky Derby which is, in your own words "the most prestigious dirt race in the world" and Flamingo Park, ever thought of comparing their budgets ??Over the Air wrote: So when I was critical of the track and how it has gone backwards in comparison to when it was managed properly, people had a lot to say. I see now some newbies attempting to protect Phumelela and suddenly the horses welfare is an excuse. I want you to look at the following and tell me how the most prestigious dirt race in the world could have been run in these conditions, and there was not a single injury reported on the day?

Titch budgets were never an issue when the king of Kimberley did his thing.
So lets bite and answer - who exactly sets the budget?
Another thing, Peter Miller worked his arse off on that track to ensure that racing would go ahead. I remember speaking with him one Monday morning prior to racing and he told me that they had been busy on the track from Saturday morning and had finished up at 11pm on the Sunday evening. It was because of him that MdK was so complimentary about this track.
So perhaps the track is not the problem, the people that are responsible for it are. When I see what is happening to a once bullet proof track, I can not help but feel deja vu and compare the destruction of the vaal sand to this.

Re: Flamingo Park Sunday/Monday
8 years 6 months ago - 8 years 6 months agoNo doubt that Peter Miller was a genius and that he did a magnificent job, but surely you cant believe that he would have been able to save yesterdays meeting, unless of course the reason for the cancellation was due to the current track manager being bullied into irrigating against his wishes, (if that was indeed what happened) Pete simply would not have been party to anything that he was "ordered" to do..but even allowing for that, there can be little doubt that the meeting could not have run its course (pun intended) and there is no doubt that all 10 races could never have been run and as a consequence today's meeting would not have had even the slim chance that currently exists of taking place,,,so with the benefit of hindsight there can be no doubt that the right decision was made yesterday,...Over the Air wrote: Titch budgets were never an issue when the king of Kimberley did his thing.

Following a further track inspection at 9:45 am with track management and trainer representatives, despite every effort taken to work through all hours of the night/morning to get the track ready for racing, we regret to inform you that the track is still very wet and in the best interests of safety, today's race meeting dated 6 February 2017 at Flamingo Park has been abandoned.

I can see no good reason why any trainer should be allowed to tell any track manager to water a course. I recall a few years ago a track manager was fired from the Vaal for cutting the grass on one side of the course to give a certain trainer's horses drawn there the benefit. Only a Phumelela representative should be allowed to give groundsmen instructions(he can do this after consultation with trainers and jocks if he likes) If a trainer knew certain of his horses would not enjoy a course that was not watered then that to me would be unfair and illegal
