I'm sure watering the track is needed to work on it ? If they know it's due to rain what do they do ?

I have no clue whatsoever when it comes to track management but clearly when rain is forecast then watering the track as per normal ie when no rain forecast, can only create problems as experienced this weekend..
Give everything but up!

Another meeting cancelled and I feel very sorry for all the trainers. However, today I want to thank Phumelela for their constant communication with us since yesterday morning. They also gave us a chance to save the meeting.
By 9.30 this morning a decision was made that it's unsafe for our horses and riders. I want to thank Clyde and Jay for being open to suggestions when it comes to the cancelation of a racemeeting. I hope we can put everything behind us and go forward in a positive manner.

These threads become contaminated with bullshit to deflect the real and basic issue.
There is only ONE earthly reason to race on anything but turf ...and that is to benefit from "all weather" racing.
On that basis this track needs to be Turf or Poly .....not Kitty litter, which is more vulnerable to bad weather, than Turf!
The RA,if they were independant, would be pressing "P" to provide all weather racing in appropriate situations, to save lost meetings for owners!

so zero racing over 2 days so maybe the 7 or 8 races they could have run yesterday would have been better route to go ..bird in the hand

Massive thread guys and i did read the original posts but was astonished by the numerous comments and confess i did not read them all.
My take would be that suerly it would not be in anyones interest to cancel/abandon any race meeting including owner, trainer, jockey and i would include the operator as everone suffers including employees, caterers etc
Good punting (if u can)

PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE

RELEASED BY: PHUMELELA GAMING & LEISURE
Due to various reasons, Flamingo Park has already lost three race meetings this year and plans have been put in place to make up for the missed events.

This is so typical of the inefficiencies at Phumelela. A press release is sent out saying additional races have been added to the existing program. Thats fantastic, until you look a little deeper into what is actually going to change. So a total of 3 race meetings were lost. A total of 28 races were lost due to the abandonments. The Phumelela solution is to add 1 race to the 3 remaining meetings in February which is fair enough, HOWEVER ONLY 2 MEETINGS ARE SCHEDULED FOR MARCH and these will get an additional race each. So in total 28 races lost and 5 gained results in a nett loss of 23 races. The solution is clearly not good enough and additional days in March should be added. There are 7 meetings scheduled for PE in March. The scheduled 6 March meeting has a typical humdrum appearance and could easily be given to Kimberley to compensate. I am sure that even PE trainers would not begrudge racing 6 times to assist their colleagues in Kimberley. I bet you that this wasn't even considered due to the differences in turnover between the two centres.
I have no time for the groot gat so personally I am delighted with this scenario, the press release however rings hollow in indicating that things are being done to assist the battlers out there.
