toontony, funny you should mention that Pedometer may have been chased home by LIONS. For those that are too young to remember, Mrs. Hemming / Barnard had a tame lion caged in on her plot / farm. Perhaps that was part of her training strategy.
I believe she was the finest WOMAN TRAINER S.A. has ever had - & she beat most of the men I might add.

Ascot in Bulawayo wa4 the first racecourse I ever went to. It was their biggest meeting, the Castle Classic, in Sept 1972 and Ronnie Sheehan won the Feature with Fleeting Gold, ridden by Vicky Moore, later Buddy Maroun's last assistant trainer. Ascot closed for several years in the 60s and was later revived, but this time it looks permament. I've been told the weighing room is now a day care centre.

Maybe Hollywood should take it over and revive it...that will shut those up who reckon bookies only take and never give. Lol.

Apparently it will be developed into a shopping mall, possibly also with office and residential units. I guess that, like everyone in Zim, it's waiting for better days. Certainly there is no way on earth that the current horse population in Zim can support two courses.

BTW, Ascot was a turf track, whatever the above picture may lead you to think!

In a foggy race in USA a 50-1 shot won by 25 lengths. It was a two lap race and it was eventually discovered that the jockey had stopped his mount on the first lap and rejoined the field on the second lap. He pleaded innocent!
