will also check the link, but chris/dave/info all bring you to the site,
Al
please take a deep breath, your contributions are first class, we are both aware my visit to the tote was initiated by your request.
most of the lads here have day jobs, we have people that get paid to look after racing and trust me, they all read the site.
We never tend to get credit, but constructive ideas receive plenty consideration, (sorry I dont have in writing).

alcaponee:
In the end, what matters is persistence!
I have been putting out various options, re-visiting and fine-tuning, weighing up the prospective supporters, etc...literally fishing with all types of bait!
Result, after 15 odd years?
Stone wall!!!
Now, posters come on with pragmatic suggestions, ask for guidance, way forward, call for a united stand, etc. Where, initially I got flack for some of the comments I made, today, there are those who have the higest respect for me (no, my head is not swollen!).
It means, to me, that we have like-minded, dedicated, intelligent, understanding, rational & concerned people out there. Within our own immediate families, most of us are beset with problems. That does not translate into just giving up on all!
Al, you made venerable comments & suggestions; maybe some are shocked that such things could be thought of or even mentioned! Give them time to gel!
People like you are needed; they don't come 13 to a dozen!

Maybe a bit of over reaction on my part but the outburst was never meant to turn into an attention seeking ego stroking excersize. I am dead serious about contributing positively to this game.

thanks for the suggestion Alcaponee, if we're going to do this:
1. it will have to be done very carefully in the wake of many that have tried before you
2. have patience, not all of us have the time to watch each and every post on this forum
3. do not rush, this monster is bigger than you think
4. some of us are in the UK, USA and abroad so cannot 'mobilise' - but are willing to contribute remotely.

Don,
I'm with you. Anything I can contribute as far as writing and phone calls go I can do, because of my current home being the USA.
My family used to RUN TAB Transvaal so I have a working knowledge of the tote and whats happening there. Unfortunately they are now no longer ONLY a betting company. They now want to run every aspect of racing.
Whatever you need from me I'm willing to contribute with GUSTO!!!!

Don, Tommy as stated above - we first need volunteers. Once a committee has been formed I would suggest electing a chairperson and vice chairperson. No money involved therefore no need for a treasurer. We will communicate by email at first and could then perhaps progress onto skype. Skype accounts are free. Just need to check if Skype handles conference calls. Emails can be consolidated into minutes therefore a secretary is not necessary either initially.
Once the structure of this organisation is finalised, I would suggest we establish what we aim to achieve, What is the goal and purpose of this. A mission statement and vision should be established.
We would then establish a common purpose in terms of a starting point and set a couple of areas of concern that we wish to target. It is a voluntary type scenario and we would not want to be bogged down by 20 areas of foucus. I would rather we focus on one aspect at a time. Each aspect is in most cases linked, but we should complete a project before moving on to the next. It might take longer but will be more effective.
As for Tommy and Don overseas, it's clear that you love SA racing and SA. We can use you mental input and the internet has opened up the world for us in terms of research. I am sure that is how you found the the Japan racing .pdf Don. No contribution will be too small.
Thank you for your interest.

Ever experience the frustration of dealing with a Tote operator, who has no clue of what to do...and here you are with "winning bet", that does not get on, because of idiot operators...too disinterested/too dumb/no motivation, or having a conversation, while processing tickets, or those who cannot do simple arithmetic, when paying out change.
So much for filling qoutas...employing colour above merit
Or some punter in front of you who has incorrectly filled in a ticket, and keeps the rest of the queue up.
On the plus side, there are tote operators that are efficient, and are quick to respond. This is what a tote playing punter needs....Service, Quick and Efficient.
So maybe P, should create an incentive by introducing a R100 prize for the most efficient Operator at each outlet, every day.
The prize should go to the operator who processes the highest number of tickets, through the tote machine, for which, that operator is responsible for.
Stop employing people for the wrong reasons.
And,P , before you employ Tote operators, give them sufficient training before they "go live".
I was at Turffontein for Summer Cup day, and one incident of a frustrated punter not getting a bet in, because of "a clueless operator", is more than enough reason not to want to experience the same disappointment again.
There really is nothing more frustrating, then having a non caring, or "does not have a clue" idiot operator, stuff up your winning bet....a punter does not need to be subjected to on the job training of staff.
I love racing, I enjoy the adrenaline rush, but the service levels, suck...
The manner in which the racing industry is managed, makes one wonder if this is not another avenue to siphon off public funds, to enrich a few...don't give a damn, as long as the momey flows in.

Observer:
have you noticed the standard of service on Tellybet. There are just one or two stars, Lorraine, Cheryl and another.
The rest, can't hear, repeat your number, code..., 11 instead of 7, loud noise in background.... And, some of them show naked irritation!
Before I forget, the dropped calls!!!!!
'Your call will be answered by the next'.... you wait almost a minute. The line opens, then.......shooopps, cut off without even a 'hello'!
That to happen 3-4 times a meeting is not justifiable..... no excuses!

I don't use telebet as much as internet now ,but operator LORRAINE is absolutely outstanding and is worth her weight in gold.
She definitely deserves recognition...hopefully financial!
