Mr H - Good point about Lusito Land - Perhaps P should look at partnering with an event such as this.
As for the bookings - No excuse for over inflating prices but greed backfired in this instance - there seems to be quite a bit of inconsistancy in racing. One day you racing with coloured numbers the next you're not. Seems directionless and nothing seems to be given a fair chance. No common goal and again I think that there is too much self serving interest and no brand building.
I strongly believe in energy. Whatever energy you put into something will filter down through an organisation. Let's use a supermarket as an example. You tell your staff that they will only receive there bonuses in January. What happens the energy drops and the customer feels it. All this infighting filters through the ranks and the customer feels it ultimately. Contra to this management with positive energy filters through the ranks. I suppose it does not help when the foot soldiers in racing are untrained or under trained.
Agree promoters need to refund the industry. Why was GC not called to assist. They have a proven track record with major events.
Enough critisizing and bitching. What can I bring to racing?
Well the staff issue is a major issue. The problem with outlets is that there is no vested interest in the venture. You have managers who probably just collect salaries and have no interest and staff who are the same. Outlets need to be franchised properly. Owners and operating managers / pattners need to be involved in order to maintain standrds. The totes need to be viable and financially attractive to investors. An investor needs the franchisor to provide a concept that will attract punters. I am not going to go into detail but consider the possibilities of a franchise agreement. Consider the percentage of royalties that the franchisor can earn out of turnover. Consider the percentage of turnover for advertising the franchisor can earn. Consider the licensed products the franchisor can make the franchisee purchase in terms of a franchise agreement. Consider all of the above and then consider that I have not included betting turnover yet.
Come on, what do I know? Surely there are much brighter, far more educated people within the ranks of the opertaors or are all the ideas herein and above not viable options?

Challenge to the contributors to this thread and the like:
Lets form a united front and present something significant, something the operators can't ignore.
The idea of this post was to see what reaction this thread would generate. Well this and others have shown that there is a willingness to contribute positively, now lets take it one step further and organise.
I propose a volunteers committee of concerned ABC posters:
I am sure we can make a positive difference by showing that we are willing to volunteer our time to make a meaningful contribution. I am sure we will be taken more seriously if we dont just sit and take pot shots from our posts. There are plenty of ideas but no real focus. Lets get some focus and present a proposal of ideas that we want to see implemented. Would have to be a committee that communicates by email of course and we would need to focus on one area at a time.
Lets see how serious you are. Lets see what you can bring to racing:
I would like to see the following posters on this committee:
JasonD, Don, Mr Hawaii, Oscar, Gregbucks, Garrick, Umlilo, Magic, Karel, Jack Dash and anyone else who wants to make a positive contribution. (apologies if I have not named any particular contributor).
Please request my email address from Hibs or Scotia and lets see what we can do.

wonderful idea- I always maintain; let's play them at their own game...mobilise!
why can't we get together for an indaba? Even 2-3 for starters.
I don't mind weekday or w/end..give me 3 days notice.

Cheers Umlilo - The suggested committee is scattered around the country so would like to start by forming an electronic committee at first. What do you think?

Al
I will try give as much input as possible, but I think there are more qualified people than me
I vote for Umlilo as Chief Whip

The qualification might be a love for racing and an open mind(to listen, share and to learn) without a personal agenda or malice.

I'll continue to give my advice with as much gusto as I have but unless you guys want to come over here to NYC for a meeting (youre more than welcome to stay with us) then I guess I will always only be a "voice from a far"

One of the best things I think is to try to adapt good working models to our local situation(obviously our worlds differ but a good idea can be adapted to fit)
