first, they attained unity of control. Then built a collective vision - which included absolute integrity so as to ensure customer trust, with a good marketing plan and implementation over a number of years, leaving no stone unturned (even targeting women separately and specifically with their foal to racehorse series), cementing an emotional bond with the product, which lasts a lifetime, growing fans for generations. Backed up with super IT/media systems which make information dissemination and flow to the customer easy and accessible, AND a zero-tolerance of misconduct policing system.

Cheers Don - Unfortunately cant say that I did read this pdf. I only read what was posted on the forum. (Stipes etc)
Hibs please send if you still have it.
Has the plan been sent to P and co?
Don I know that you may believe that this is repetition and is boring but the idea is to bring fresh ideas and hope that someone will pick it up and run with it. Is the point of this forum not to speak our minds. I was hoping that we could speak our minds in a positive way and put forward some positive ideas for actioning.
By the amount of hits this has received, it does show that people do want to contribute positively.

i'm looking to see if i can find that old article on how they built the empire....i'll post it when done. Alcaponee - whats the point of stubbing the fires? or putting bubblegum in the holes that are causing the boat to sink...it needs a complete redesign and everyone involved's full focus and belief to start from scratch to build something that will stand the test of all kinds of threats (economic/technological/strategic drift/in-fighting). NEEDS A common vision!

If we can sum up SAF racing - P has the clout, whatever the big P decides and does, is what the rest will have to follow as they have the money muscle, and the more money muscle they acquire, the more trade rights etc they can afford to add. But what, other than turnover maximisation, is the marketing plan of the big P?
Does it include building a local brand and sustaining a local market - ie putting back into the 'community' (the SAF racing community) - what is their social responsibility agenda if any?
Could Gold Circle and the big P, along with the RA and JC, possibly learn to play in the same pen, with a shared common vision whereby their resources are pooled in order to build the local produce and create a unified viable industry?

For me the track is the heart of the industry and what is created there should therefore feed the arteries. However our tracks are normally incredibly quiet and dull. Somehow these "consultants" that charge fortunes have to come up with Unique and Relevant ideas to combat this problem. I've brought people to the race track who have never set foot on one before. They expect so much especially since all they've really got to compare it with is what they see or hear on the major race days like the July and Met.
I end up being embarrassed to see tumble weed go flying past the 2 bored out of their minds bookmakers ! While my mates are really disappointed by what they see.
There has to be an incentives to be on track and 2 options to look at for me would be betting tax and other novel discounts for punters. By doing so, the races would be a good place to be and more peolple would be inclined to go and to take with them new race goers who could be shown that one can make some money from racing and that the scewed image it retains is no longer really relevant.
People flock to casinos because it's simple and they get value for money, meaning they can spend a long time in instances to get rid of their 200 rand playing 50cent one armed bandits etc
Idea 1 could be that Bookmakers offer tax free bets on course only, just like sport is currently on or off.
Idea 2 Your horse gets beat by a short head , the tote refunds you 50% of your wager. Or your horse is objected against and loses the race, once again a refund of some sort. etc etc
When the general populace think they're getting a good deal they'll support it, currently the state of racing doesn't appeal in the slightest to non racing people that I know.
Sure the Tote works on pools but I'm sure the clever brains could work out a system and put 1% of every pool into such ventures for an example.

Turfontein ON COURSE BOOKMAKERS...
sold the license..
most I took in cash...about R22k...champions day..from steinhoff tent..R10 punters
average I took in cash...about R3k
cost to stand..fees, wages, food, drinks, guys that carry the stuff..R2k..
PS..I took 2/3 of all the cash...the other bookmakers split the remaining 1/3
why..each guy at the gate...shake his pocket when he arrives..ave R100...
can give each guy R100m credit, then I will have the biggest debtors book..
sell the debtorsbook to the banks...will they buy..even at 90% discount..???

Well with another poor turnout at the track yesterday, the most important thing you can bring to racing is your friends and family.Get them to the races, drag them kicking and screaming..
