JOCKEYS CONTROL RACING
13 years 9 months ago
I have spoken to guys at the tote and they are of the opinion that jockeys control racing.
The guys at the tote estimate that 90% of jocks are dishonest. They feel that most of the time the best horses in the race don't win due to dishonest riding.

@tero:
I agree with you; that is the perception, together with a whole lot of misinformation and 'garnered' rumours!
At one time (before becoming an owner and getting involved in the nitty gritty.... that's what I also suspected!)
Pick up any product that you purchased froma supermarket and see what's written on it.... CUSTOMER HELPLINE!
They want to hear/know what you are satisfied/dissatisfied with and why to improve their offering.
As for this industry?
That alone should answer all your critics!
Racing is being killed off right under our noses because of a cloak and dagger operation; that's the bottom line!

@Unhappy
Do you think 100% of the jockeys are honest in terms of riding out their horses in a race to get the best possible finish.

Some of the punters perceptions are that jocks can be equated to prostitutes, they can be bought off by bookies to loss a race when they are riding a favourite. Subsequently, making excuses to either the trainer or the owner as to why the horse did not perform to it's maximum potential.
Jocks are also susceptible to bribery & corruption. Hence horse racing is experiencing a painful death.

Currently, the tote that I frequent has less than 5% of punters who back horses are under the age 30 years, it has 0% punters under 25 years.
Racing industry is doomed due to the perception by current & prospective punters that horse racing is manipulated by jocks.
However, soccer is on the increase by punters under the age of 25 years.

Tero it is a well known fact that the worst tipsters on the planet are Jockeys (closely followed by their agents) so the perception that the Jocks are manipulating results could not be further from the truth..What I do know from 1st hand experience is that if Muzi gets rolled on a favorite/fancied horse or in a close finish his mood darkens and he is not pleasant company...Also take into account that in order for jocks to "stop" fancied horses they would have to have the trainer in the joke or risk the chance of losing the ride in its next start and in some instances all rides from that yard and for the trainer to be in the joke he would have to keep his owners in the dark and risk losing the horse/horses,in short the ramifications of pulling horses up far outweigh the reward the connections are supposedly receiving for their dishonest deed...The safer route is to back the horse to win and keep everyone bar the bookie happy and if you get beaten on merits then at least you live to fight another day clear of accusations that have any merit.. Bottom line racing is a lot straighter than what it is perceived to be the problem is that when a favorite is beaten critics are for the most part talking from their pocket..How many people do you know that have had field in their J/pot or Pick 6 perm and then sling off about a bad ride on the favorite that is beaten by a 33/1 shot...it doesnt happen

Give everything but up!

Got this off the net...
Sean Cormack suspended three months
SINGAPORE: Mat 16, 2011
Jockey Sean Cormack was today suspended three months for his handling of FAST BREAK in the Kranji Stakes C - 1100m sprint at Kranji on March 4.
Trained by Douglas Dragon, FAST BREAK (Bel Esprit - Pride Of Nevis by Strategic) finished sixth, just over one length from the winner VIVA PANATA (Estambul - Blooming Luck by Maroof).
The inquiry into the running and riding of FAST BREAK was concluded today. Cormack, the rider of FAST BREAK, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that from the 500m until near the 300m, he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards when he did not ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination to improve his position when there was an opportunity to do so.
When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the nature of the charge and submissions Cormack that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore meeting on this Sunday.
The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races for a period of three months and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday, March 21, until June 20, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
Update:
On Thursday, 17 March 2011, Jockey Cormack, the rider of FAST BREAK, exercised his Right of Appeal against the severity of the penalty imposed on him. The appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.
