Fast Break finished 6th in a 12 horse field in the race in question behind Viva Panata a 7 time winner who would have been favourite in the race and the accusation was that the stipes felt he could have run into the places..the appeal has no doubt since been heard and given that he is now riding I can only assume that it was set aside.
(Fast Break has won once in his subsequent 5 runs)

where money is involved you will always get skulduggery in any industry...the problem in sa is our stipes are absolutely useless and even when they find a person guilty they cock up the legal procedure and he or she gets off scot free ...i have the worst eyesight available and see horses being given an easy day after day..

Talking about jockeys , I think Titch might be the most qualified on this forum to answer the following question.
Over the years, I have heard that the younger jocks and appies are, on occasion, bullied and threatened in the jockey room by some of the senior jocks for whatever reason.
Have you ever heard of that?. Does it still happen, if it ever did?.

@ East
It happens on a regular basis but starts and finishes in the Jock room and never taken onto the track where it would endanger all riders....

this topic of jockeys controlling racing makes me wonder about peoples or perhaps in this instance the punter on the whole horseracing scenario. Please help me out here on how it all works.Does the punter think that say on a friday night the jocks get together over a bottle of scotch or a line or two of cocaine and decide who should win what and then split the profits with a willing bookmaker. You ay the punters at the tote say 90% of the jocks are dishonest, what a load of horseshit,if that were the case why are we all still punting horses. There is of course some dishonesty in horseracing as there is in most sports today and i can tell you from experience that it is almost impossible for a jockey to pull a horse up in the modern era whithout being detected and i would venture to add that it would be far easyer to stop the horse in the stable.Racing, not unlike the stock exchange is for the insiders, its a business for the people whithin the industry and nobody gives a damn about the punter, but to get back to the jocks most of them do there level best to win and very few are dishonest

@ Tangles
"it is almost impossible for a jockey to pull a horse up in the modern era whithout being detected"
Question
How many times does one read in the stipes report " jockey felt something amiss"
Vet report - "nothing obvious detected"
I am neither a jockey nor the vet. But makes you think doesn't it?.

Eastexpo,
most jockeys put the horse first and if they feel something amiss will ease up on the horse rather than ride it out to the finish, many a good horse has had its racing career ended by less experienced jockeys persurvering with the horse.Vets checking horses after the race and findind nothing amiss is not abnormal as the horse may have recovered

Point taken. Exactly my thoughts as well.
From a punters perspective those comments could create some doubt.
I do hear you though, as it happened to my filly as well. The injury was only detected the following morning in her box resulting in a 6 month break on the farm.

This dishonesty in racing is resulting in the demise of this sport. It's a pity punters are losing their hard earned cash because of unscrupulous jocks. One dishonest jock is one to many. Therefore we have few young people punting .
If Sean Cormack is found guilty.....I hope they ban him for life...imo any jock that pulls horses are thieves...they are stealing from punters.
P.S. In some countries they chop off your hands for stealing.
