@Titch
I suggest if you still can not see the light...you should make an appointment with the veterinary surgeon to remove the cataracts from your eyes...it seems like you are delusional...do you still believe jocks are honest?

it follows that every country in the world has jails so to think that Jockeys, trainers, owners and punters do not have a % of people that are dishonest is naive but to think that only one sector of this group are criminal is also naive. Having watched racing for many years I think that 70% of the current riders do not really have the skills to pull up horses and the other 30% are trying to win most of the time - I have also noticed that the "catch me if you can" races that used to happen often in the Cape and Natal (using claiming appies) is not as prevelant as it used to be - Due to the decreased stakes, television coverage etc I do think that Racing is at its most honest now . But there will always be people that think they can beat the system -

What I found extremely funny about that was how you exaggerate to make a point and that Harris picked up on it....also please explain if police de jeux hang around the race course looking for any untoward goings on or if corruption in racing is just 1 of their duties and how does an illegal bookie reflect on "crooked" jocks??? Regards George

Titch the point was made to be humorous not exaggerating, secondly ask f herholdt about the unit and how they operate since he is more familiar with them than I am!

Chris Brand, the acting chief executive of the BHA, said on Friday that "racegoers and punters should be reassured that the overwhelming majority of races are free of suspicion and we are committed to deterring and detecting wrong-doing and taking action when we believe there is evidence of it."

Well said Magic. Re what I've bolded, some of the posters here should check out the thread The Riders in the Stands posted by Mac ... it says the same thing and is very amusing too.
Agreed too that the corporate world is as cutthroat as anything you might encounter in racing. And worse. Been there, done it, got the hairshirt. Been through a "constructive dismissal" too ... what an education in sheer corporate nastiness! No-one filming every move that's made, or recording every lie that's told. Racing is a Sunday School picnic by comparison.
Not that that excuses corruption when it does happen and is detected. But if it is real, then go to the authorities and make your case, with evidence. Don't spread rumours and start campaigns. There's been an anti-Basil Marcus campaign going down on another thread which is simply sick-making. Innuendo and personal hate ... now it's jockeys as a group. I've yet to see any evidence that would stand up in court. Yet this sort of hate-based rumour can destroy people's lives and livelihoods.
If you really believe racing is mostly crooked, why are you still in it? Cummon some of you, tell us ... why?

Yes, "if you think it's crook why are you still in it" is right up there with "if he knows so much why doesn't he drive a Ferrari" in the list of racing questions that NOBODY has ever been able to answer.

Hibs I agree it is laughable that there are people who blow things completely out of context and make some really nonsensical statements with the conviction of one who is a veteran authority on the matter when in fact they are completely void of the facts, and I would laugh it off as a joke and treat it with the contempt it deserves but for the fact that sadly there are uninformed people on the fringe of the industry that actually believe the likes of Tero and his "Google book of knowledge"
